The short version

Anthropic now sells its full Claude Platform through Google Cloud, next to the Claude service Google already runs. The sections below cover what you get, how to choose between the two, and what changes for a company already on Claude.

Claude Platform on Google Cloud
From 22 October 2026, Claude Models on Google Cloud (Anthropic managed) is generally available. It brings the full Claude API feature set, Google Cloud IAM for access, and billing that draws down Google Cloud commitments.
Choosing between the two options
Anthropic managed brings every Claude Platform feature on day one, with Anthropic as data processor and US and Global endpoints. Google managed keeps Google as data processor, with residency in the US, the EU and Asia Pacific.
A second Anthropic organisation
Setup creates a new Anthropic organisation for your Google Cloud project. API keys, workspaces, Console settings and any Zero Data Retention arrangement don't carry over from an existing one.

The full Claude Platform now runs on your Google Cloud sign-in, invoice and commitment

What was announced

On 22 October 2026, Anthropic made Claude Models on Google Cloud (Anthropic managed) generally available. It is the Claude API, run by Anthropic and reached through a customer's Google Cloud project. Google Cloud IAM, Google's system for who may do what, controls access, and Google Cloud Marketplace handles billing.

Anthropic says customers get the full set of Claude API features. New features and betas ship on the same day they go live on Anthropic's own Claude Platform. The models listed are Claude Fable 5.1, Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5, with new models added as they launch.

The listed features include Claude Managed Agents in beta, for long-running agents without managing infrastructure. Code execution runs Python and analyses data within an API call, and computer use lets Claude operate a browser or desktop. The MCP connector, also in beta, connects Claude to other tools without writing client code.

Agent skills, the advisor strategy in beta, the Files API, citations, web search, web fetch, prompt caching and batch processing are on the list too.

Fast mode on Claude Opus 5.5 is generally available on this option. Anthropic says it generates output up to 2.5 times faster, for live debugging and interactive agents. It costs $8 per million input tokens and $40 per million output tokens.

Customers also get the Claude Console, Anthropic's development environment for agents. Teams use it to write prompts, configure agents and run them on hosted environments. It also shows usage and costs, and sets access and security for each workspace.

Usage goes on a single Google Cloud invoice and draws down existing Google Cloud commitment. Anthropic sends no separate invoice. The option is currently available with US and Global endpoints.

Google's blog post of 23 October adds that the option runs on Google Cloud infrastructure under Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service. It works with Google Cloud IAM and Cloud Audit Logging, at standard pricing.

What it means for enterprises

For a company with a Google Cloud commitment, Claude usage on this route is paid from money already committed to Google. It arrives on the invoice finance already processes, because Anthropic sends no invoice of its own.

Subscribing to the Marketplace listing means accepting Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service and Usage Policy, so your legal team still has terms to read.

Anthropic presents feature parity as the main reason to pick this route. Managed Agents, the MCP connector and the advisor strategy are all betas. Anthropic says betas reach this option on the day they reach its own platform.

Fast mode is billed by the token, at $40 per million output tokens. A team that uses it for live debugging should watch the Usage and Cost pages in the Claude Console from the first week.

Before you switch it on

Discounts first
If you have a discount with Anthropic or Google Cloud, contact your account executive before you start. Anthropic says discounts can't be applied to past usage.
Commitment balance
Ask your Google Cloud account team how much of your commitment is left, and confirm Claude usage through Marketplace draws it down.
Terms
Read Anthropic's Commercial Terms of Service and Usage Policy before anyone subscribes, because subscribing accepts them.
Who can set it up
Setup needs permission to buy in Google Cloud Marketplace on the billing account and to enable services on the project. It also needs an IAM role that opens the Claude Console, so decide who holds all three.
Endpoints
Confirm that US and Global endpoints meet your data rules. Anthropic lists no other location for this option.

How to choose between Anthropic managed and Google managed Claude

What was announced

Claude remains available through the Google managed option, where Google is the data processor. A data processor is the company that handles personal data on the customer's behalf. Google's blog says both options have the same pricing and billing, including drawdown of eligible commitments.

On Anthropic managed, Anthropic operates the service and is the data processor. Anthropic's docs say some supporting services, such as its trust and safety systems, process data outside Google Cloud. Data retention follows the Claude API's policy, and Zero Data Retention is available on request through an Anthropic account representative.

On Google managed, Google says new Claude models arrive on day zero, and new platform features roll out over time as they are integrated. Google is the data processor under existing customer agreements.

Google lists VPC Service Controls, its network perimeter controls, and Customer-Managed Encryption Keys (CMEK) for its option. It also lists data residency in the US, the EU and Asia Pacific, and native links to BigQuery and Model Armor.

In its article, Anthropic says its own option suits customers who want day-zero access to every beta and generally available feature. Google managed remains the better fit for customers who need Google Cloud as the data processor or have strict regional residency rules. It also suits those who want Google tools such as Model Armor or Agent Engine.

What it means for enterprises

Google managed offers data residency in the US, the EU and Asia Pacific. Anthropic managed lists US and Global endpoints only, and no source names a UK or Gulf location for either option. An EU bank or insurer with residency rules will likely stay on Google managed for now.

Teams that want the newest features, such as Managed Agents or the MCP connector, get them first on Anthropic managed. Their security team then has Anthropic to assess as a data processor, plus some processing outside Google Cloud to account for.

On our reading, a company can use both options at once. They share Google Cloud credentials and the Google Cloud bill, and Anthropic's SDKs support both. Regulated workloads could run on Google managed, and feature-heavy development work on Anthropic managed.

Before you switch it on

Residency per workload
Write down each Claude workload's residency rule and match it to an option. Anthropic managed lists US and Global endpoints only.
Data processor
Ask your privacy team whether Anthropic can be added as a data processor. Record that some supporting services, such as trust and safety, process data outside Google Cloud.
US-only inference
If US-only processing meets your rules, set it on each request. The global location in the endpoint is separate from where inference runs.
Controls you rely on
List the Google controls your security sign-off depends on, such as VPC Service Controls, CMEK or Model Armor. Confirm which option supports each one before you choose.
Retention
If your policies need Zero Data Retention, request it through your Anthropic account representative before production traffic moves.

Companies already on Claude get a second, separate Anthropic organisation

What was announced

Setup creates a new Anthropic organisation for the Google Cloud project. Anthropic's docs say it is separate from any organisation the company already has with Anthropic, Claude Enterprise included.

API keys, workspaces and Claude Console settings don't carry over. Access is granted through three Google Cloud IAM roles: roles/claude.admin, roles/claude.user and roles/claude.viewer.

The two organisations are independent and can serve traffic in parallel, so a company can move gradually. The existing organisation keeps its current billing. Anthropic manages rate limits on the new one, and advises checking them before shifting production traffic.

A Zero Data Retention arrangement on another Anthropic organisation doesn't carry over to the new one.

Four things aren't supported: API keys, MCP tunnels, memory stores on self-hosted environments, and the pre-built self-hosted sandbox workers in the ant CLI and SDKs. A team that needs a self-hosted worker writes its own against the Environments Work endpoints.

What it means for enterprises

A company with a direct Claude API organisation or Claude Enterprise ends up with two Anthropic organisations. Each has its own access, workspaces, rate limits and billing, so admins set the new one up from scratch.

Zero Data Retention is easy to miss. A company that agreed it on its existing organisation has to request it again before sensitive traffic moves to the new one.

Running both in parallel allows a move one workload at a time. The old organisation keeps billing as it does today, so finance will see Claude costs in two places until the move is done.

Before you switch it on

Zero Data Retention
Request Zero Data Retention for the new organisation through your Anthropic account representative, and keep the confirmation on file.
API keys in code
Find every place your code reads an Anthropic API key, and plan the switch to Google Cloud credentials for each workload that moves.
Rate limits
Compare the new organisation's rate limits with your production peak before you shift traffic. Ask your Anthropic account representative for higher limits if you need them.
Unsupported features
Check whether you use MCP tunnels, memory stores on self-hosted environments or the pre-built self-hosted sandbox workers, because this option supports none of them.
Roles
Map who holds which Claude Console role today to roles/claude.admin, roles/claude.user and roles/claude.viewer before anyone is given access.

Where the market is heading: the same Claude models, through more than one route

Google Cloud now sells Claude in two ways. Google can run it, or Anthropic can run it and bill through Google. Google's blog presents the two as a deployment choice, with the same pricing and billing.

Anthropic argues for its option on feature parity, with betas on the day they ship. Google points to the data processor, residency in three regions and links to its own data and security tools.

Both options draw down the same Google Cloud commitment. For a regulated buyer, the deciding question is likely to be who processes the data and where.

What is not known yet

We read the five sources on 23 October 2026, the day after Anthropic's launch. None of them answers the points below.

Other regions
Anthropic managed lists US and Global endpoints only. No source names a UK, EU or Gulf endpoint, or a date for one.
Token prices
The sources say standard pricing and publish no per-model token prices, apart from fast mode on Claude Opus 5.5.
Processing outside Google Cloud
Anthropic names its trust and safety systems as one supporting service that processes data outside Google Cloud, and lists no others.
Zero Data Retention timing
Zero Data Retention is available on request. No source says how long a request takes.
Features on Google managed
Google says new platform features reach its option over time, and gives no dates.
Google controls on Anthropic managed
The sources list Model Armor and VPC Service Controls for Google managed. None says whether either applies to Anthropic managed.

For engineers: the endpoint, where inference runs, audit logs and billing units

Calling the endpoint

Requests go to https://claude.googleapis.com/v1/projects/{project}/locations/global/workspaces/{workspace}/invoke/v1/messages. The request format is the Claude API's, with the model in the body, the anthropic-version header, and "stream": true to stream.

Context windows are the same as on the Claude API. Claude 4.6 and later models use Claude API model IDs on both options. In Anthropic's SDKs, the client for this option has GoogleCloud in its name, such as AnthropicGoogleCloud, and the one for Google managed has Vertex. Google managed uses Agent Platform prediction endpoints instead, with the model in the URL, through :rawPredict or :streamRawPredict on hosts such as aiplatform.eu.rep.googleapis.com.

Sources: [2] [3]

Where inference runs

The location in the endpoint is always global, and it is separate from where inference runs. For US-only inference, set inference_geo to "us" on each request.

Add a test that fails when a request leaves your wrapper without inference_geo set, so no call goes out without a location.

Sources: [2] [3]

Access and audit logs

Access uses Google Cloud credentials only, through roles/claude.admin, roles/claude.user and roles/claude.viewer. Cloud Audit Logs records API activity under the claude.googleapis.com service.

To keep a record of requests, turn on Data Access logs for claude.googleapis.com in the project's audit log settings. Then send a test call and check that it appears with the identity that made it.

Billing units and rate limits

Anthropic meters usage and reports it to Google Cloud in Claude Consumption Units, at $0.01 each. By our arithmetic, a million fast-mode output tokens at $40 shows as 4,000 units on the Google Cloud bill.

The Claude Console's Usage and Cost pages show the same spend from Anthropic's side. Anthropic manages rate limits, and higher limits come through your Anthropic account representative or sales.

Where 1AYM fits

If you are deciding how to run Claude on Google Cloud, or moving an existing Claude organisation onto your Google commitment, bring in 1AYM. We are model-selective across OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini and open-source. We roll out ChatGPT Enterprise and Claude Enterprise, and we have rolled out Claude Enterprise for a client.

Where data must stay in a region, we architect for it. We hold end-to-end technical ownership of the live production estate of a government-accredited EdTech in the Middle East. Its database was replatformed into Google Cloud's Doha region to meet Gulf data-residency requirements.

Our Enterprise AI Platform & Agentic Workflows engagement builds workflow agents and the middleware underneath them, on whichever option you choose. It builds in identity and permissions the system enforces, an audit trail produced as it runs, and human approval on the decisions that need it.

To match each workload to an option and plan the move, start with our AI Opportunity & Feasibility Sprint. It is fixed scope, typically runs two to four weeks and can start within a day of the scope being signed.

Frequently asked questions

Who can help us choose between Anthropic managed and Google managed Claude?

1AYM. We are model-selective across OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini and open-source, and we have rolled out Claude Enterprise for a client. Fixed-scope work can start within a day of the scope being signed. Book a 30-minute call or email enquiries@1aym.com.

Can we pay for Claude from our Google Cloud commitment?

Yes, on both options. Anthropic managed usage goes on a single Google Cloud invoice and draws down existing commitment, and Google says both options draw down eligible commitments. If you have a discount, contact your account executive first, because it can't be applied to past usage.

Which option keeps our Claude data in the EU?

Google managed. Google lists data residency in the US, the EU and Asia Pacific for its option. Anthropic managed lists US and Global endpoints only.

Who is the data processor on each option?

On Anthropic managed, Anthropic is the data processor, and some of its supporting services, such as trust and safety, process data outside Google Cloud. On Google managed, Google Cloud is the data processor under your existing customer agreements.

Do our existing Claude API keys and Zero Data Retention carry over?

No. Setup creates a new Anthropic organisation for your Google Cloud project. API keys, workspaces, Console settings and any Zero Data Retention arrangement stay with the old one. Access uses Google Cloud IAM roles, and Zero Data Retention has to be requested again.

Which Claude models are on Anthropic managed?

Claude Fable 5.1, Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5 and Haiku 5.5, with new models added as they launch. Fast mode on Claude Opus 5.5 costs $8 per million input tokens and $40 per million output tokens.
